FIRST® is committed to bringing its programs to students who would benefit most, and is providing funds to communities to address inequities in STEM. The mission of FIRST is to inspire students to become science and technology leaders and innovators by engaging them in exciting, mentor-guided, project-based programs that teach STEM skills, inspire innovation, and foster well-rounded life capabilities. FIRST provides opportunities to develop STEM literacy through a robotics platform and a progression of programs – FIRST® LEGO® League Jr. which serves K-4, FIRST® LEGO® League which serves grades 4-8, FIRST® Tech Challenge, serving grades 7-12, and FIRST® Robotics Competition which serves grades 9-12.

To ensure greater access and reduce inequalities, FIRST in partnership with LEGO Education and with the support of the LEGO Foundation is providing LEGO product and funding to communities through the FIRST LEGO League Jr. Season Pass Grant. This project is intended to provide support to start or grow FIRST LEGO League Jr., with particular emphasis on sites in areas with underserved children. By outfitting an entire site, more children will be able to participate and the capacity of the FIRST LEGO League Jr. Partners in the regions will be able to scale the delivery of the Program. There are 30 grants available this season for organizations within the U.S. and Canada.

This grant funds a FIRST LEGO League Jr. Small Season Pass. The sites who are awarded this grant will be expected to reach 144 students, with a focus on the Underserved and Underrepresented communities detailed below.
